RDSP Year of the Reader: Jake Fuchs

Raw Dog Screaming Press has designated 2014 as The Year of the Reader, a time for us to celebrate the audience. We will be doing reader spotlights and special events throughout the year, as well as launching a Reader's Choice Award. More info here.

Jake Fuchs

Top 3 reader experiences.

Hard to limit to 3, but I'll try:
(1) finding and eating up a copy of 'Big Table,' an outlaw mag that printed an excerpt from W. S. Burroughs' 'Naked Lunch' before it was allowed in the country.

(2) Thomas Pynchon's 'V,' read on a plane between LA and San Francisco. Never the same again.

(3) a 17th-century poem, John Dryden's 'Mac Flecknoe' assigned in a survey course. Led eventually to my becoming a college professor.

What these 3 texts share is abundant wit fueled by powerful authorial imaginations. In other words, they blew me away.

Thank you, readers. Wish there were more of you.

Jake Fuchs's novel 'Conrad in Beverly Hills' was published by RDSP a few years ago, Also published: 2 satiric mystery novels, a number of short fiction pieces, and some scholarly writing, I grew up in a movie family in Beverly Hills, eventually became a college professor at CSU Hayward, and, post-retirement, have concentrated on fiction. I live in Berkeley, CA, with my wife, Freya. We have three children and a grandchild.
